A Sustainable Spin on Business Travel

MANUAL ANTONIO, Costa Rica—Luxury and ecotourism meld at Arenas del Mar Beach & Nature Resort, where unique business travel is a specialty. Situated seaside on the Pacific Ocean and beside the Manual Antonio National Park, Costa Rica’s newest “green” resort easily hosts 15 to 20 attendees for business and board meetings within a sustainable setting.

Seeking to demonstrate a previously unseen combination of luxury service and complete sustainability, Arenas del Mar was built with careful consideration of the highest five-level rating of the Costa Rican Certification for Sustainable Tourism, in hopes to join the ranks of only two other hotels in Costa Rica to have achieved the respected “five leaves” rank.

Catering to high-end business travelers, resort amenities offered include locally-sourced paper made from banana or coffee leaves for note taking, as well as organic chocolate and coffee breaks, and refreshments served in biodegradable plastic bottles.

When business meetings or functions conclude, guests need only venture outside their room to indulge in world-class cuisine at one of the resort’s two restaurants, El Mirador or Playita, enjoy pampering at the property’s intimate Las Brisas Spa, or explore the depths of Costa Rica’s lush outdoors. A mere step or two from each guest room resides private nature reserve trails from which to observe the region’s famed flora and fauna, as well as intriguing native species.

Guided tours are also available within the resort’s 11 acres, and often yield many sightings of monkeys, sloths, toucans and more. For adventurous travelers staying a day or two beyond business itinerary, exciting opportunities abound, including whitewater rafting, horseback riding, ocean kayaking, mountain biking and canopy tours.

Those seeking rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, however, may simply wish to lounge in the unpredictable comfort of one of the 38 well-appointed guest rooms. Offering maximum comfort while upholding the resort’s extraordinary commitment to the environment, guest rooms seamlessly blend into the tropical surroundings. Built around existing trees, all rooms come equipped with amenities one would expect in an urban resort—not the middle of a rainforest—including ceiling fans, air-conditioning, cable television, wi-fi Internet, mini-bar, coffee maker, microwave, hair dryers and irons.

Also available are Ocean View Apartment rentals, granting guests over 1,650 square feet of living space, spacious private decks or terraces with Japanese-style Jacuzzis and uncontested views of the scenery.

By making wise business travel decisions at environmentally-friendly facilities, companies and individuals are taking a stand to support environmentalism and the protection of Costa Rica via socially-responsible travel.
