Reusable, Oxo-Degradable Water Bottles

In an effort to reduce the amount of plastic water bottles that we produce on property, Arenas del Mar has implemented a policy in which every guest receives a free refillable, oxo-degradable water bottle.  Oxo-degradable water bottles have a life of approximately 18 months, leaving only carbon dioxide, water and biomass behind in the decomposition process to assure a cleaner, more sustainable planet.
Organic Coffee
All guest rooms are stocked with shade-grown organic coffee grown on the Finca Rosa Blanca plantation.  Finca Rosa Blanca has thirty acres of hard bean coffee which is certified organic by an international organization called OKO Garantie and is certified sustainable by the Rain Forest Alliance and CICAFE, the Costa Rican National Organization for Coffee.  Over 5,000 native trees on our plantations producing shade for the production of organic coffee and with the help of Costa Rica’s environmental protection agency (MINAE) and local school children, biological corridors for the birds and animals of the area have been created as well. Natural composting using vermiculture (worm beds) techniques have been put into place to avoid the use of harsh, environmentally damaging agrochemicals, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides. The coffee is planted using the natural topography of the farm to avoid erosion and water waste and is protected by natural fences planted with native shrubs and trees.
