Folklore Dance Group “Añoranzas de mi Pueblo”
Costa Rican culture is one of the highest interests at Arenas Del Mar. As part of our Sustainable Efforts we support local families and one of them has formed this special group of Folklore dance music; taking us back to the beautiful customs and lovely Spanish songs with humorous names but significant meanings. The Punto Guanacasteco is probably the most recognized traditional dance of Costa Rica and like many other Costa Rican folkloric dances, it tells a story.
- Cuatro Gatos (Four Cats): a slow dance traditional from the middle high class.
- Burro “E’chilo” (“E’chilo” Dunkey): this dance represents a man in love, who no matter how many bad moments and difficulties he goes thru in his life is always fulfilled of illusion- (ain’t no mountain high, no river deep)-, because over all those things is the woman he loves.
- La Fiesta (the Party): a dance that represents all the party people from Costa Rica who take any excuse to party.
- Amores de Laco (Laco’s Loves): Laco is the nickname of a guy, famous in his town because he used to flirt with every girl he could reach with his eyes. This song then represents those guys who don’t take a “no” for an answer.
- El Pavo (the Turkey): a town dance in which everyone struggles to dance with someone else, because who does not get a partner to dance with will be forced to dance with the broom.
- Cuando Me Voy de Mi Tierra (When I Leave My Town): a special song which represents all the people who leave their homes and try to make a living in a different town or country, but know in their hearts there is always a place to come back in their beautiful Costa Rica, where their home is.
 |
- Mi Bandera (My Flag): song which represents our National Flag and it’s three colors: blue represents the sky and oceans, white represents the peace in Costa Rica and the red represents the blood of our warriors who fought for our freedom and liberty.
- Juan Rosquillas: this is the name of a very happy man who sells “rosquillas” (typical way in which the bread is prepare ) and who also enjoyed riding bulls, reason why he became very famous.
- Punto Guanacasteco: our second Hymn and probably one of the most famous songs in Costa Rica. Every time we hear its notes, our heart beats with the beat of the music.
- Ticos de Corazon (Ticos From the Heart): the feeling from anyone of us who feel proud of being Costa Rican and belonging to this beautiful country.
