Restaurant and Bar

Restaurant + Bar

We are committed to sustainability in all our practices at Arenas Del Mar including our culinary offerings. We buy most of our food locally and whenever possible we buy organic. We have a hydroponic garden on our property that provides some of the greens on our menu. We use only grass-fed beef. We buy seafood from Costa Rican fisheries (that fish responsibly and avoid endangered species). We serve only South American, mostly organic or biodynamic, wines. We even use bamboo straws made by a local company.

These practices are good for the environment and good for you. Great meals start with great ingredients and when we start with excellent local ingredients, you can expect freshest the offerings at both our Arenas Del Mar restaurants.

El Mirador Restaurant

El Mirador Restaurant is located near our reception area and pool, overlooking Espadilla Beach, Manuel Antonio National Park and the Pacific Ocean. El Mirador—which means “the viewpoint” in Spanish—has an open air, covered interior dining area and outdoor seating. Along with breathtaking views and gorgeous sunsets, our restaurant serves breakfast and dinner using fresh, local ingredients. Start your day with our complimentary breakfast: fresh fruits, homemade granola, warm muffins and breads, eggs, pancakes and of course, Costa Rican coffee. Our dinner menu includes highlights such as locally caught fish and other delicacies at this authentic full-service Costa Rican restaurant.

El Mirador Bar

Located just outside our restaurant and behind the pool, El Mirador Bar boasts the same spectacular views with a nightly happy hour, it is a gathering spot for guests and a great place to enjoy a sunset drink. Our bar has all the offerings you would expect—an extensive wine selection, mixed drinks or espressos—along with Costa Rican specialties such as:

  • Guaro Mojito: prepared with aguardiente, a typical Costa Rican liquor made with sugarcane.

  • Tico Sour: made with local guara cacique, a local sugarcane liquor.

  • Horchata: made with rice, milk, cinnamon and peanuts; agua de sapo with lime, ginger and cane syrup.

So pull up a stool and get to know our local bartender. By the end of your stay, he’ll know your name and maybe even your favorite drink.

Playitas Restaurant and Bar

Situated next to our secluded Playitas Beach on the lower part of our property, Playitas Restaurant serves a delicious lunch in an unforgettable setting. Sink your feet into the sand while you enjoy a fresh fruit smoothie and seared Pacific tuna salad. Choose a poolside table for a snack or sit in the shade of our restaurant. There’s not a bad seat in the house. Don't forget your swimsuit and binoculars—you won’t want to miss a sloth lazing in the trees above you or a troop of white-faced monkeys swinging through the branches. And when you’re finished lunching, you’re steps away our secluded Playitas Beach where a shaded lounge chair awaits you.
