The capital of the Country is situated in the Meseta Central. It enjoys a permanent spring climate, with an average temperature of 23C, 74F year round. It is surrounded by majestic blue green mountains reaching to the cloud covered volcanoes of Poas and Irazu.
San Jose is known for its theatre, performing arts and galleries. It is home to Teatro Nacional, Pre-Columbian Museum, Gold Museum, Jade Museum, Museum of National History and Children’s Art Museum. Teatro Nacional is an exact replica of the opera house in Vienna, Austria and home to Costa Rica’s National Orchestra, Opera and a rich program of performances.
The city has a lively nightlife, clubs and an array of excellent cuisines to choose from. Dinning choices go from Costa Rican tipico whole red snapper, Italian fresh pasta, French Brasserie, Peruvian ceviches and Japanese sushi to Argentine beef house.
San Jose’s proximity to three volcanoes, two great white water rivers, its artisan villages, day markets, coffee tours and butterfly farms make it the departing point for most of the one day tours in the country.
