BEST TIME TO VISIT COSTA RICA
If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica, it’s likely that you’ve wondered at some point, “What time of year should I visit?” The surprising thing is that, taking into account both dry and rainy season, the best time to visit Costa Rica is still not a one-size-fits-all answer.
Whether dry season or rainy season in Costa Rica is ideal for your travels depends on a few factors. Let us point out a few things about the two seasons!
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT COSTA RICA?
DRY SEASON IN COSTA RICA
Late November through mid-April is considered dry season in Costa Rica. When it comes to planning around American holidays, this typically begins around Thanksgiving break, and then the dr season ends around spring break.
The weeks at the beginning and end of dry season aren’t exactly predictable— you may see rain or you may not. The good news is, even if it does rain, there’s also plenty of sunshine to enjoy!
Since many travelers choose to visit the country during dry season, this does make it the busier season to stay in Costa Rica. With “high season” can come higher prices at certain hotels, and it’s common to have larger groups when participating in excursions or visiting landmarks.
RAINY SEASON IN COSTA RICA
Rainy season in the Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is May through November.
Many travelers get turned off by the rainy season, but it’s because they don’t realize that it really means green season! This means the rainforest is much more vibrant and green—in fact, during dry season, some forests in Costa Rica even turn brown! Another thing to note is that rainy season it isn’t even that rainy! Other than a late afternoon or evening shower, you won’t even notice it’s rainy season—plus, you’ll probably enjoy the relaxing sound of the raindrops as you wind down your day.
The rainforest is much more vibrant and green—and it isn’t even that rainy!
A lusher rainforest isn’t the only reason people love to visit Costa Rica during the rainy season. Another great perk is the fact that it’s less busy because of the misconception that you shouldn’t visit during this time. That means that if you plan to go on a tour of the national park, a hike to beautiful Nauyuca Falls or another amazing Costa Rica adventure, you won’t be greeted with the same large groups as you would during dry season. Finally, a perk that many love is that pricing is less than during high season. If you’re a budget-conscious traveler, this allows you to see the beautiful country during the months between May and November while spending less money.
