Community & Education
At Arenas Del Mar, we believe the concept of “local” is the key to sustainable hospitality. That’s why we hire local and buy local. Learn how we support our community in Manuel Antonio.
Meet the Arenas Del Mar family and connect with our local community
We hire exclusively Costa Rican staff predominantly from the local area. In many cases, their educational level and skills are limited when they start with us, and we invest heavily in their training and professional development.
Many hotels in Manuel Antonio lay off a high percentage of their staff during low season. We don’t do this. We provide ours with year round employment and plenty of opportunities for growth.
From tasty ingredients to indulgent spa products, immerse yourself in everything Manuel Antonio.
At Arenas Del Mar, we make a conscious effort to source as many products as we can from close to home as possible. The fish we serve is caught by our local fishermen through the Dock to Dish Program. Much of our restaurant food comes from just around the corner.
Our minibars are stocked with only local drinks and snacks. Our organic coffee is roasted just up the road by Cafe Milagro, a Manuel Antonio-based coffee company.
You’ll enjoy 100% Costa Rican spa products and bathroom amenities at the resort. Our gift shop also offers a variety of products handmade by local artisans including jewelry, woodwork and purses.
Local Community Support
Our sense of community extends beyond the Arenas Del Mar family.
Twice a month, volunteers from the hotel prepare and distribute meals for homeless people in the area. At Christmas time we also lend a helping hand to the local councils in organizing parties for children from less fortunate households.
Did you know your generous donations support the students of Sabalo School?
Schools in the area such as Sabalo School are marginalized and have limited resources. We work with the non-profit organization Earth Equilibrium to support Sabalo School through two programs: “Building for the Future” and “Learning is Change”.
The former works to improve basic infrastructure and provide essential classroom supplies such as pencils, paper, and even physical education equipment.
The latter concentrates on education programs which teach young students about the importance of environmental stewardship. Combining these two programs, we managed to help build a small recycling center at Sabalo.
Both programs are fully funded by the generous donations of our guests!
Your donations help inspire the next generation become environmental stewards
Your donations also aid the environmental education efforts of the Titi Conservation Alliance.
This local organization works for the protection and conservation of the squirrel (titi) monkey which is commonly seen around Manuel Antonio.
They regularly visit five other local schools to give environmental workshops. Some of the topics they focus on are conservation, protection of marine resources, reduction of fossil fuel consumption, and how to save water.
“Arenas Del Mar has everything you could possibly want in a luxurious vacation. Most of all, by booking a vacation here, you know you’re traveling sustainably and responsibly. The resort hires local people, serves fresh and local food, is committed to conserving the environment, and supports the local community.”
